Humble Simpson

Myers Park safety Tyree Simpson tries his best to remain humble despite being considered by many as the best safety in Charlotte

While some people may find it difficult to live up to the high
expectations that others have of them, Myers Park senior safety Tyree
Simpson finds it very easy. It is very obvious that Simpson is simply a
young man that loves to play football and is playing for his love of the
game and not the high accolades of others. The young athlete is
considered by many people including his coaches and teammates as the
best safety in the city of Charlotte.

Simpson’s teammate and Myers Park defensive end Brian Johnson said, “I
think Tyree is not only the best safety in Charlotte, but the best
safety in N.C. A lot of people talk about (Former Independence safety)
DeVonte Hollaman as being the best, but I would take Tyree. He's such a
leader and can do so much on the field." Myers Park coach Jim Ruark speaks
highly of the young star as well. “It’s not only a challenge, but its
great working with such a fine young man as Tyree. He gives us the
opportunity to do some things defensively that we wouldn’t necessarily
be able to do, because he is such a great athlete we’re able to take
advantage of his athleticism and that’s a real great thing for us.”

It would be very easy for some athletes to such compliments and
become pompous or boisterous, but not Simpson. He knows that when
people compliment him as a player, it is a result of his hard work
paying off. “It makes me feel real good about myself. I work really
hard and I set goals for myself. I work hard to achieve them.”
Simpson also says that he feels no pressure in being considered a
leader on the field for his teammates, which further illustrates that
he is a young man willing to step up to the plate at all times.

Like many high school student athletes entering their senior year,
Simpson is being highly recruited by Eastern and Western Carolina
Universities and North Carolina State University. However, the young
superstar said that he would love to get a scholarship to Auburn University.

Whenever things in life do seem to get to be too much for the athlete,
he says the one person he can talk to is his mother. His mother has
always been there for him since he never really had a father figure in
his life. Simpson wants people to know more about him than just the
fact that he is a great football player. He really wants people to know
that he is a person with good character. He says that he is a nice
person who loves to do things for the community. If he saw a piece of
trash on the ground, he would definitely pick it up. When he’s not
playing football, Simpson loves to draw and spend time with his
friends. It can definitely be said that Tyree Simpson is not only a
good athlete, but he has a good head on his shoulders that ensures that
he will go far in life.
